What type of data does the platform use?
We use verified climate and emissions data drawn from public registries, regulatory disclosures, certifications, enforcement records, and corporate reporting. This includes transition risk indicators, physical risk exposures, emissions data, and decarbonisation commitments, structured into auditable supplier profiles.
Do suppliers need to complete surveys?
Our bureau model uses existing verified climate data, without relying on questionnaires or self-attestation. However, you can use our platform to engage with your suppliers and gather more data to feed back into the platform if you choose.
How quickly can we get insights?

Does this replace the need for supplier engagement?

Do you use actual reported emissions data or estimated figures?
Both, applied in the right order. Purpose Bureau maintains one of the world’s largest databases of reported emissions data, drawn from regulatory disclosures, corporate reporting, and verified public registries. Where your suppliers have reported emissions, we use that data directly to build a more accurate Scope 3 inventory. Where reported data does not exist, we apply our emissions factor database to estimate figures using either spend data or the volume of products and services procured. The result is a Scope 3 inventory that prioritises verified, reported figures while ensuring full coverage across your value chain.
How does your Scope 3 data differ from a spend-based calculation?
Spend-based calculations use your procurement spend and an industry-average emissions factor to estimate supplier emissions. They are fast to produce but inherently generic, because they treat all suppliers in a category as identical regardless of their actual energy use, fuel mix, or reported performance. Purpose Bureau starts with actual reported emissions data where it exists, which means your inventory reflects the real emissions profile of your specific suppliers, not an industry average. Where reported data is unavailable, we apply emissions factors calibrated to the supplier’s activity type and geography rather than spend alone. This layered methodology produces a more defensible, audit-ready Scope 3 inventory, and one that improves over time as supplier reporting matures.
